Thankful

--Bushwacking in the Parker River Reservation--
When I started this blog, it was driven by a new found passion for fly fishing. There was no agenda then, and still now, other than to find a creative outlet to share and express my experiences with the sport.

Over time, I've discovered many others in this community (just look at the list of  "Stuff Followed" on the right) who also share the passion and love to write about their experiences as well.

I'm not as active as many in the fly fishing blogosphere and certainly cannot keep up with all the great content they publish, but still feel connected to a new community I was unaware of less than a year ago.

I've also found a fishing obsessed group on twitter that gets together every Tuesday at 7 PM MT (9 PM ET) under the hashtag of #Fishchat. #Fishchat is spirited group of dedicated anglers who post lots of great fish porn and offers sage advice.  I connected with @AncientAngler during a #Fishchat and learned he lived in my neck of the woods.

Charley (aka @AncientAngler) and I found a time to meet and fish together on a local trout stream just north of Boston last weekend. Neither of us had fished this area, but we were both up for an adventure on new water. Charley captured the adventure nicely on his blog titled Ancient Angler, so I won't repeat it here, but he is the first internet fishing friend that I've had the opportunity to fish with.

While we both agree this trip to the Parker was not an ideal fishing outing, we are glad to have met and are looking forward to future adventures together.

On this Thanksgiving Eve, I'm thankful for my family, our good health and new found fishing friends like Charley.

Wishing everyone a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving.

  1. Thanks for checking in, Alan. You are one of the active members of this community I write about who is always posting great content. I just spent the last 20 minutes catching up with the "Small Stream Reflections" November postings. Gobble, Gobble...

  2. When I don't see a new post on someone's blog for a while I always worry that all may not be well. I usually drop a note on the last post reminding the writer that they are overdue for a new post. You were next up on my list. Glad to hear all is well and want to wish you a happy Thanksgiving.

  3. Thanks, Howard, for checking in and your concern. You too are one of the great contributors to our community with "Windknots and Tangled Lines". Reading your posts always puts a smile on my face.

Yes, all is well with me and family, though I like to write about fishing on the blog and haven't done much of that lately. Plan to get out this weekend so perhaps I'll have a good story to share soon.

Hope your Thanksgiving was good and continued blessings through the holidays for you and your family, Howard.

  5. Hi Sean,

Yes I did have a nice Thanksgiving. Spent it with my sister and family in Vermont. I just went over to your blog "Up the Poudre" and it looks like you had a good one to.

As another virtual friend and great contributor to the community, I may not always comment on your posts, but do enjoy reading of your fishing adventures--especially with other members of the great fly fishing blogosphere.

At my current rate, I should get another post up before Christmas. Maybe even one about fly fishing.

    Thanks for checking in!

  6. I love the bushwacking term on your photo...that is something is it not, to manage your way through thick brush to get to the water? Here in Colorado on the Upper Big T I always get a little concerned about run in with a bear in thick brush, ha ha, that is because now and then I see scat around there! And it is always fun when the net gets caught and nearly beheads you when a branch releases it...good photo, like your blogs BTW...Merry Christmas...

  7. Thanks, FisherGirl. Seems like most of the rivers/streams we fish in the east require a little bit of bushwacking though I've never run into a bear.

Thanks for the follow and I just checked your blog and started following as well. Have a great Christmas.
